Mike Sabo can’t get away from Rotary. Just ask him. He’s been with the club three times. Mike’s good friends Dave Patton and Jim Smith invited Mike to his first Rotary meeting in the mid-1990s. Business travel didn’t allow him to stay with the club for periods of time, but whenever he was in town, he was at Rotary.
A native St. Louisan, Mike answers “Lindbergh” to the high school question. He received his undergraduate and graduate degrees, both in business, from St. Louis University. More importantly, he met Marilyn Huesgen at a fraternity-sorority event. Marilyn attended the school of nursing in allied health. Mike and Marilyn began dating while still in their teens and married not long afterward. They celebrated their 37th wedding anniversary in January 2010.
Marilyn and Mike are the proud parents of Julie and Mike Jr. Julie is married to Stuart Miller. They have a baby Caroline born January 12, 2009 and live in Chicago, IL. Mike will tell anyone that’s too far away to enjoy the grandbaby as much as he and Marilyn would like. Mike Jr. married Kate Ferguson in 2009. They also live in Chicago.
Mike opened Your Diamond Source in August 2008, a unique way for consumers to purchase diamonds and jewelry. He eliminated much of the overhead – inventory, costly store space and commissions – associated with traditional retail jewelry stores. Mike passes significant savings on to the savvy consumer while still providing the highest quality diamonds, precious stones and jewelry, with personalized service.Mike’s previous professional experience led to this new endeavor. He had 34 years of experience in the diamond industry with De Beers, Harry Winston, Lazare Kaplan and his family’s 128 year old diamond wholesale business.
Mike has direct access to diamond and colored gemstone manufacturers, thus assuring his clients a wide selection of gems from which to choose. He offers customized designs so clients can create unique rings, necklaces, bracelets and earrings. Mike offers comparable prices to the internet with the added bonus of personalized service.
In addition to Rotary, Mike maintains several professional memberships, including the Kirkwood- Des Peres Area Chamber of Commerce, Better Business Bureau Accredited Business, Jewelers of America, Missouri Jewelers and Watchmakers Assoc., Jewelers Vigilance Committee, and Business Network International. Mike is secretary-elect of the Des Peres Rotary Club.
In his spare time, Mike likes to golf, fish, and hunt. Now that the kids are gown, Marilyn says it’s time to travel. Europe is on the horizon for 2011.
